Have you ever felt fear to make a decision or take action? Worried about how others may perceive you? Wanting to do something but feel you don’t have what it takes?
Giving yourself permission to do what you want, dream, or desire has so many barriers that need breaking. Most of the barriers are within ourselves through self-sabotage. In my personal experience, I’ve struggled to allow myself to decide or do things I knew I would enjoy or achieve because I thought about how it would make me look to others, it didn’t satisfy everyone’s wants for me, or my fear of failing in front of people. So much overthinking can kill an idea.
I look back now and see there were moments where I didn’t realize how people I considered close were manipulating my feelings and ideas through guilt, inserting their opinions, and pushing their self inner thoughts onto my life When I think about such people, some of them didn’t mean do this and others intentionally had a plan. The great thing about the experience is I learned. As an empath, I learned to protect my personal thoughts and energy in order to give myself permission to live free.
With that being said, I’m learning to do the following to give myself permission:
Expect People to Not Believe In You
There’s a saying that people cannot understand what they cannot see. Therefore, how can they speak on your path if they can’t see it? I look back at my path and see moments where I didn’t realize how people I considered close were affecting my character and ideas by inserting their close-minded mentality and pushing their thoughts of themselves onto my life.
The great thing about the experience is I learned. I learned to forgive them and protect my personal thoughts and energy in order to give myself permission to live free. Your path, dreams, and ideas are gifted for your eyes only. Whether it’s an idea to start a new business, move to a different state, go back to school, or take a risk, these feelings and thoughts are for you. Everyone isn’t going to understand what has been seeded into your life, so don’t expect them to believe in the growth you’ll make.
Change Your Surroundings
You are what you consume. If you consume mostly negative social media platforms and gossip, you’ll began to gossip and add your two cents into other people business. If you consume the complaints of people who hate their 9-5, you’ll began to find reasons to hate your job to relate. If you only consume the radio and news to get information, you’ll be stuck with what you’re told.
It’s all a subconscious cycle can impact our ability to give ourselves permission. Changing your surroundings with people who are doing things you aspire to do, consume resources that will uplift and encourage you to grow, and investing in yourself is the goal.
Attract Positive Energy
Kill the noise of society. Society contain norms, facades, comparisons, and the chase for perfection. Not only does society cause negative energy, but it can develop within you. You ever wondered why you’re not motivated, keep comparing your progress with others, and trying to live up to expectations of others? Such factors are reasons why your not allowing yourself permission to be your best self. Attracting positive energy takes efforts such as positive affirmations, prioritizing yourself, validating your feelings, giving your mind and heart grace as you are only human, and most importantly consistency. Consistency can get you anywhere.
Giving yourself permission to do what you need or want is no harm. Although, when you refuse to listen to your body and spirit, it can cause more harm than good. We have so many roles and demands based on our family dynamics and workspaces, it’s no wonder why we feel burnouts and lack of purpose.
Give yourself permission. If you have a hard time allowing this, repeat this:
I give myself permission to care for myself.
I give myself permission to rest.
I give myself permission to try.
I give myself permission to grace.
I give myself permission to make mistakes.
I give myself permission to be myself.
I give myself permission to love.
I give myself permission to design my own life.
I give myself permission to achieve.
